Give administrators the ability to impersonate users

Our old LC system gave admins the ability to impersonate users. This was extremely helpful for troubleshooting, verifying a problem existed (and wasn't user error), and assisting/performing tasks for users. In addition, Canvas allows their admins to do it. It's a useful feature I miss.

View as student

Mathew Sayer
Currently, instructors cannot easily verify what students see after editing lecture recordings in Echo360. This creates uncertainty about whether edits (e.g., trimming disruptive sections) have been applied correctly and whether the correct version is visible to students.
Please consider adding a “View as Student” option within the Echo360 instructor interface. This would allow instructors to preview recordings exactly as students see them, without needing to log in with a separate student account. This feature would:
- Improve confidence in edits and publishing.
- Reduce support queries related to visibility and version control.
- Enhance usability and peace of mind for instructors.
Use Case Example:
An instructor trims a recording to remove interruptions but is unsure if students can still access the unedited version. A quick “View as Student” toggle would confirm the correct version is displayed.

View as Student is a feature we would use all the time. Staff often ask me if they can do this. Moodle offers this feature and its extremely useful for both testing purposes, and demonstrating to staff and students what they can expect to see and do. 100% support this one!

Ability for Faculty to switch to Student-view inside Canvas
J
Justin Jackson
Faculty should be able to switch to the student view while inside of Canvas, without needing to go to Echo360.org. We currently have to enroll a dummy-account with another email address for each faculty that want to see what students see inside Canvas.

Allow Instructors to view their course as a Student
I've had multiple requests from Faculty to view their course as a student. Our work around is to create student accounts however this requires additional email addresses and impacts course analytics.

Provide existing Instructor/TA users with helpful messaging in the UI if they try to access an LTI link as a Student

Many of our existing Instructors/TAs need to be able to access some Echo360 Courses as a Student (for graduate courses, they are an Instructor in an under-grad course, but need to be a student in a graduate course, for example).
When existing Instructors/TAs in Echo360 click a link as a Student from the LMS, they need to be explicitly granted the Student role on the Echo360 side to access that course via the LTI link.
Right now when they click the LTI link in this scenario, they are sent to the sign in page, then they sign in and it brings them right back to the sign in page. It is not clear what is happening and there is nothing in the UI indicating that the role is an issue.
Please provide some kind of messaging in the UI so these Users know to ask the Admins for assistance with granting them the role on the Echo side.

Admin Privileges for User Accounts

As an admin, it would be most helpful to be able to access user accounts. Especially in the event of the employee leaving, or assisting someone with troubleshooting. It would be great to "go to user, select 'act as,' and be able to see/use as user if needed.

Current silent failure is difficult to understand unless the user or helper already knows the likely cause

Agreed! An 'impersonate' feature would be ideal.

I know there have been times when a user says that something is not working, they can't see things and testing that would be beneficial.
