Currently, UWA is doing a full integration of EchoPoll with our Anthology LMS. What we discovered is that when a user has dual accounts (staff and student), it affects the authorization process when they are logged in as students. A colleague - UAT specialist - outlined the steps for when this situation occurs: (1) In a normal context when the learner has only one account and wants to join the EchoPoll session using their mobile, they just need to authorize their ID the first time they log using their mobile. After that, they won’t need to authorize it again—just enter their user ID to log in. (2) In a context where the user is both a staff and student, e.g. a post-doc research fellow, they would have two accounts. When the user is registered into EchoPoll as a staff in one course 1 and as a student in another course 2, the student in this instance when participating in course 2 as a student with their mobile device, would be prompted to complete the authorization process again as an authorization email is sent to Outlook, and the student can only participate in the session after completing the authorization process. This happens repeatedly every time the user as a student is using her student account. This does not give the end user - the learner - a good seamless experience. The recommended solutions were for the user to: (a) log into LMS --> click on the EchoPoll link to be redirected to their course in EchoPoll and take the new session from there OR (b) log into the authentication process using a different browser as their staff account. The above works but again, the user has to remember this everytime they have to use EchoPoll as a student. Again, not a very good seamless experience. We are hoping that the EchoPoll Team will look into this moving forward for HE institutions who are considering doing a full integration of EchoPoll with their LMS.
