Frustrating Video Playback Issues: Spacebar & Mobile Support Fix Needed
Please improve the video player interface and software settings. There is a recurring issue with the spacebar functionality for playing and pausing videos. When watching a lecture video, pressing the spacebar to pause often results in the hub losing focus, meaning I can’t use the spacebar again to resume playback or the arrow keys to rewind or fast forward. Instead, I have to manually use the mouse to click the play, pause, or navigation buttons. While this doesn’t happen every time—sometimes I can use the spacebar without any problems in full-screen mode—it occurs about 90% of the time and significantly disrupts the user experience. Occasionally, I can resolve this issue by clicking directly on the video screen itself, after which the spacebar and arrow keys resume working. However, this solution is inconsistent, and I haven’t been able to identify a reliable pattern. Sometimes cycling between the play and pause buttons a few times helps, but again, it’s not a foolproof fix. Additionally, mobile support needs improvement. Specifically, when accessing Echo videos through the Canvas app and subsequently using a browser, there is no hub option to enable full-screen mode for videos. While I understand there is a dedicated app, it doesn’t seem to be functional yet, leaving the browser as the only option. This makes it frustrating to play, pause, rewind, or fast forward videos. Addressing these issues would greatly enhance usability across platforms.

compatability of monica
I am a Chinese student currently enrolled at the Australian National University (ANU) and have been utilizing the Echo360 platform extensively for my studies. During the last semester, I found the platform incredibly user-friendly, especially due to the presence of subtitles on the right side of the screen. This feature was particularly beneficial to me as I was able to use the Monica plugin—an AI assistant—to translate these subtitles into Chinese sentence by sentence. This integration allowed for a seamless experience where I could watch lecture replays without the barrier of language. The sentence-by-sentence translation also ensured that I did not get stuck on certain terminologies or mistranslations, which would otherwise consume a significant amount of time. However, since the recent update to the Echo360 platform this semester, I have encountered a frustrating issue. When attempting to use Monica to translate the subtitles, the Chinese translation now overlaps with the original English subtitles, rendering them unreadable. This has been quite disheartening. I have attempted alternative methods such as downloading the subtitles and translating them into Chinese, but this workaround is not only inefficient but also lacks the convenience of having the subtitles scroll synchronously with the video playback. I suspect the problem may be related to changes in the website’s front-end, although I am not entirely sure of the specifics. I am using the Microsoft Edge browser, and this issue has been a significant impediment to my learning experience. It would be immensely helpful if your team could look into this issue and update the platform to restore compatibility with the translation functionality of the Monica plugin. An update that would allow for the proper display of translated subtitles without overlap would greatly enhance my and other non-English-speaking students' ability to learn.
