After today's release, before I could even begin to canvas our learning design teams for some feedback about the new player, it started coming into my inbox. After asking a bunch of our team, the feedback is that the video zooming in and out is "distracting", "jarring", "ugly", "unnessecary", and in a worst case scenario "detrimental to those with sensitivities to visual stimula". Some described it as "glitching" when they scrolled the page, because the cursor would quickly move on and off the video, causing it to start animating, and this was especially jarring with multiple videos embedded. What would be MUCH better is if the video stayed the full size in the player, and the player controls animated in and out covering (semi-transparently) the video for the brief time they were on screen. This is what the vast majority of embedded video players we've come across do (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo), so it's a proven solution.
